Getting Desperate? 'Shattered' John Mayer Makes Public Plea For Katy Perry

John Mayer is ready to woo newly single Katy Perry back into his life — and he's making a very public attempt!
In an interview with the New York Times, the 39-year-old candidly discussed his famous fall from grace back in 2010, when his awkward interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy — in which he called ex Jessica Simpson "sexual napalm" and named his penis "David Duke" — left him looking like "a bad version of a bad boy," according to the singer.
"What has to happen for a guy to believe that he’s totally well-adjusted and be that far out of touch?" he contemplated. "My GPS was shattered, just shattered."
Taking some time away from the limelight, Mayer embarked on writing his new album, which includes many juicy new breakup songs that are undoubtably about Perry.
In fact, the pop hit-maker confessed outright that the song "Still Feel Like Your Man" was directly inspired by his pop star ex: "Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people."
But Mayer, who's also dated Hollywood hotties like Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift, insisted his new album will go deeper in its subject matter than just breakups.
"There were times when tears came out of me, and I went, OK, John, this is not about an on-again, off-again relationship,” he told NYT. "This is something more profound."
Meanwhile, as RadarOnline.com previously reported, just days after Perry split from Orlando Bloom, Mayer began reaching out again.
"John reached out to Katy right after he heard that she and Orlando were broken up," a source close to Perry said. "He wanted to just make sure that she was okay."
