“Jack is James’ absolute idol and he’s been trying to worm his way into his world for years," snitched a source. "But his attempts have fallen flat."

The informant insists the aging legendary actor, 80, "is not a very approachable guy," due to the fact his social circle is tight and his acting work is few and far between.

But that hasn’t put James off in the slightest!

Added the pal: "He wants to be just like Jack in every way and would love nothing more than to hear his amazing career advice and tricks of the trade."

And Franco, 39, wasn't giving up! "James is so forward and aggressive in that way, and has been pestering anyone who he thinks could have a connection to put them in touch for a meeting."
