This Tuesday, April 16, the Today show star talked to her cohosts via an on-air phone call to spill all the happy details about her newest bundle of joy.
“Do you have something to tell us?” the anxious host asked.
“Yes, I do. It's a girl! It's a girl!” replied Kotb. “And her name, her name is Hope.’ "
“Oh, my gosh!” they exclaimed in unison.
They asked what life was like with two daughters.
“Oh, my gosh, you guys. First of all, she is laying on the pillow right now. I'm feeding her. I can't believe it. Like I'm sitting here and, you know, you think that maybe you have gotten what you deserve, but man, I'm so happy she is here,” Kotb, 54, said through tears.
“She is digging it. At breakfast she was trying to feed her raspberries. I was like, not yet, babe. She was literally marching around saying, I'm a big sister. Like, I mean, she did try to crawl into her bass bassinet,” said Kotb, laughing.
Radar readers know Kotb adopted her first daughter with her longtime boyfriend, Joel Schiffman, in 2017.
Before her big on-air announcement this Tuesday, Kotb shared a post that read “Choose Hope,” but gave no real clues regarding her new baby!
“Hoda did you ever think your heart could give even more love than you already have given?” asked Dreyer.
“You know what's funny? You think that you're full. Like you think that you're full. That's exactly how I felt with Hailey and Joel and everything. And Joel and I were standing there when they hand you the baby. And it's the closest thing to a live birth I think you'll ever see. But anyway, in that moment I was like, my god, my heart just grew ten times. It's amazing. Anyway, I just, I can't believe it's happening, y'all. I can’t,” admitted Kotb through tears.
As the cohost told her story, the other Today stars wiped their eyes repeatedly and sighed with joy.
“So happy for you,” they all said.
Kotb then detailed the moment Haley found out she was a big sister.
“We had Hailey downstairs and Joel and I said, wait, we have a present. We have a present. So we went upstairs, and we came down holding her and we have been telling her baby hope is coming. She literally walked up to her and goes, and looked a at her and she goes ‘Hope!’”
The cohosts laughed and continued congratulating the new mom.
“I can't imagine any of this is happening,” she said, adding that she named her baby girl after her best friend, Katheryn.
“Hope Katheryn Kotb,” said the star.
