Dennis Quaid's Cocaine Hell Tore Ex-Wife Meg Ryan From Her Own Family!
Meg Ryan's mother revealed how Dennis Quaid's drug hell ripped her apart from her famous daughter while she was married to the actor in the 90s, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.
Quaid, 64, came clean about his horrific drug habit during an interview Monday on TODAY, telling host Megyn Kelly he found himself “screaming at God” to take away the pain, and now RadarOnline.com can reveal the actor's past demons continue to take a toll on his famous ex-wife's family to this day.
Ryan, 56, had a falling out with her mother, Susan Jordan Duggan, over the bad boy’s drug use, and while the marriage flopped not too long after in 2001, the tension between her family members remained.
“I haven’t seen my daughter since 1989. Sadly, no I’m not in touch with her,” Susan told RadarOnline.com exclusively, and admitted the rift was so bad she was skeptical that Meg would save a place for her at her wedding to John Mellencamp. “I have no idea if I will be invited, honestly.”
Susan detailed their arguments in her book, The Immune Spirit, which was released in 2001.
According to the book, in March 1990, Susan claims she questioned Meg about Quaid's alleged drug abuse during a heated phone conversation after she read in the paper about one of the actor's meltdowns. The call ended with the blonde bombshell slamming the phone on her — and the two still have not spoken to this day.
Several days after that phone call, in late June 1990, Quaid checked himself into a drug rehabilitation program at St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica, California. Susan's sister called to inform her Meg was telling the press she had no idea that Dennis had a drug addiction.
"I know that my daughter has excluded me from her life and ... I don’t know why, I can only guess," the grief-stricken mother said. "Maybe she was afraid I would discover Dennis’s drug problem? That I might discover something about her she didn’t want me to know?"
And the rift between Meg and her father Harry Hyra is wide as ever. "I don't discuss my relationship with Meg, because we sort of agreed," Harry told RadarOnline.com in an exclusive interview, adding his famous daughter had not called him "in years."
Sadly, Harry didn't even know much about his daughter's relationship with Mellancamp nor did he even know the name of Meg's very own daughter.
“I follow in the paper what’s going on with Meg, is she back with John Mellencamp? It would be wonderful if they got married.” He revealed he doesn’t even know the name of his granddaughter, 13-year-old Daisy. “I know Meg adopted, is it a Korean girl? Is it Kelly?”
Regardless of the toll her relationship with Quaid took on her family, Meg proceeded to tie the knot with mega movie star — but the marriage was far from perfect!
In his interview with Megyn Kelly, Quaid said he felt “small” and like he “disappeared” in comparison to Ryan’s then massive fame.
The couple split in 2001 after more than a decade together.
