Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller is mourning the sudden and shocking death of his 19-month-old daughter.
Emeline Grier Miller, lovingly known as Emmy, passed away Sunday, June 10 after falling into a pool at a neighbor’s backyard party in Orange County, Calif.
Bode, a former World Cup alpine ski racer, and wife Morgan, a former pro volleyball player, shared their sorrow on Instagram, posting several photos of the baby beauty, and including a touching tribute:
“We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday,” the message stated. “Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten.”
Emeline, named after Bode’s grandmother, was the youngest of his 4 children, and his second child with Morgan, who is currently pregnant and due in October. Just a few days ago, she posed for a sonogram photo while holding baby Emmy by her side.
“Our little girl loved life and lived it to its fullest everyday,” the family’s statement concluded.
Tragedy has befallen Bode before. In early 2013, Morgan sadly announced she miscarried a baby that was due that August.
“Pretty hard morning. We lost the baby,” she tweeted at the time. “Broken hearted but getting through it together.”
