Anthony Bourdain's devastated mother Gladys has said she's shocked that he killed himself.
The TV celebrity chef and traveler, 61, stunned the world by hanging himself this week. His body was found yesterday.
Cops have said he used a belt from a bathrobe to hang himself in the French hotel where he was staying to do his show Parts Unknown.
His mom claims to be as stunned as everyone else, she revealed in a New York Times interview.
Glays, 83, said, "He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this."
Still, Gladys, who works as a copy editor for the NY Times, said that she had spoken to her son in the days before his death and noted that he was in a "dark mood."
Bourdain gave her no indication of planning his death.
Gladys added in the brief interview, "He had everything. Success beyond his wildest dreams. Money beyond his wildest dreams."
French prosecutors have revealed that there was no foul play involved in his death.
The Parts Unknown star was found unresponsive on June 8 in the bathroom of his room at Le Chambard hotel in Kayserberg by a close friend, Éric Ripert.
Bourdain had gone to France to film scenes for his CNN food travel show.
Results from Bourdain's toxicology exam are underway to determine if he had any traces of alcohol or other substances in his system at the time.
The bad boy chef had admitted he was a recovered heroin addict.
