Abby Lee Miller isn’t letting cancer stop her from living on the dance floor! RadarOnline.com can reveal exclusive details on Dance Moms returning to the small screen with the show’s cancer-stricken star.
“They have started filming and apparently they will pick up from inside the hospital where Abby needs to build a team from scratch,” a source close to production told Radar. “She’s starting all over, a full reset.”
Although Miller, 51, has been battling cancer at a Los Angeles hospital, she is expected to “go back to her roots in Pittsburg to build a new ALDC team with all new unknown names.”
“The idea is to have the same format,” the insider said of dancers learning routines before weekend competitions. “Choreographer Gianna Martello will be back and will have a bigger role. Like in some of the episodes where Abby wasn't around.”
Miller underwent emergency surgery in April after being hospitalized for back pain shortly after being released from prison for not reporting an international monetary transaction and concealing bankruptcy assets.
She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after doctors initially believed she had an infection in her spine.
“Abby still can't walk at all,” the insider said. “This is going to be a very challenging and limiting task for her.”
But although they began filming and casting, there is a still a chance the show may not return to Lifetime.
“The network still needs to give its blessing,” the source said. “It’s still early.”
Entertainment Tonight was the first to report that Miller is returning to Dance Moms after quitting the series in March 2017.
A post on dancemomscasting.com revealed the instructor is looking for talent ages 2-9 for the mini competition team and 10-12 for the junior team.
Miller confirmed the return on her Instagram. She captioned a photo of her with a camera man, “Back to work… Lights, Camera, Action! #Dancemoms.”
