There’s nothing like appearing on a TV series that focuses on your marriage ... then divorcing. The Real Housewives franchise keeps its audience glued to the set with its toxic relationships and angry confrontations but even those pale when of those couples implode.

From the split of Ramona and Mario Singer (Real Housewives of New York), to the parting of Adrienne Maloof and Paul Nassif (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), eyebrows up and down the country have been raised out of curiosity. And in June of 2019, the separation of Gina and Matthew Kirschenheiter led to lots of headlines showing that, once again, nobody knows how to part ways like the couples on The Real Housewives.

1. Tamra Judge & Simon Barney.

Judge and Barney appeared on The Real Housewives of Orange County. At first they were inseparable, even giving relationship advice to their costars. Judge even got a tattoo to prove how solid their marriage was. But when they got into a huge fight that put Vicki Gunvalson in the middle, it all went sideways. Barney left the show claiming Judge was “verbally abusive and has committed acts of disloyalty and infidelity” (she denied it).

2. Camille & Kelsey Grammar.

During season one of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Camille Grammar appeared to be very much in love with husband (and actor) Kelsey Grammar. But her now ex-husband had seemingly different feelings and ended after 16 years and two kids. He married his alleged mistress Kayte Walsh.

3. Phaedra Parks & Apollo Nida.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta has also had its share of explosive endings. When we first encountered Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida, they were participating in pregnancy photos and eating pickles. But once Nida was sent to prison for identity theft and bank fraud, things took a turn for the worse. They split.

4. Taylor & Russell Armstrong.

The Armstrong’s appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and split up on TV. One month later, Russell Armstrong tragically committed suicide. Taylor later wrote in her memoir how he both physically and emotionally abused her. She’s since remarried.

5. Countess LuAnn & Count Alexandre de Lesseps.

The French nobleman and his fourth wife appeared on The Real Housewives of New York City They were together for 16 years and had two children, but things hit a wall when the Count cheated with another woman and decided to tell his wife in a note just after they celebrated their anniversary.

6. Adrienne Maloof & Paul Nassif.

When Maloof and Nassif split, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills due did so dramatically. Brutal custody battle? Check. Allegations of abuse? Check. Long sessions in court? Check. Fortunately, things finally settled down, with Nassif telling the press "Yes, Adrienne and I had a very public, maybe not the nicest divorce, but one thing that we both became very mature on and said, 'Hey, we have children and we need to pull together since we're two separate households. We need to come together as a team."

7. Bethenny Frankel & Jason Hoppy.

Frankel and Hoppy were a great couple. They first appeared on The Real Housewives of New York City , and things were going so well that they even got their own spin-off series. But it eventually went south leading to a serious struggle over how to divide their assets and custody of their daughter. Frankel found love again in the arms of Paul Bernon.

8. Ramona & Mario Singer.

After six seasons of The Real Housewives of New York, the Singers began singing a different tune — one called divorce. Ramona filed for divorce in January of 2014 but an attempt at reconciliation followed. The attempt ended when she reportedly discovered husband Mario was hooking up with another woman. After 20 years of marriage, it ended.

9. Danielle Staub & Marty Caffrey.

Staub and Caffrey have a different approach to relationships. This New Jersey couple were engaged 20 times and divorced three times. Following an alleged altercation at their home, Staub filed a temporary restraining order against Caffrey (that was later dropped) before divorcing a final time.

10. Gina & Matthew Kirschenheiter.

In June of 2018, the Kirschenbeiter’s announced they were divorcing after seven years of marriage. But one year later, they’d gotten back together and The Real Housewives of Orange County was set to document everything. But one month later, Gina had filed a restraining order (the results of which have yet to be revealed), and Matthew was arrested on suspicions relating to domestic violence but pled not guilty. He was never formally charged and his lawyer said "He denies the allegations. He's a fantastic father and a family man. His motivations have always been his family and his kids. Whatever happened was an unfortunate event."
