Suitcase killer Heather Mack may just claim another victim! The cold and calculating murderess just admitted that she framed her ex, Tommy Schaefer, for the crime of killing her mom. And now, RadarOnline.com has learned, devastated and hopeless Schaefer is on suicide watch in a Bali jail!
Schaefer and Mack were both locked up in the notorious Kerobokan Prison in Bali in 2014, after the murder of millionaire Chicago socialite Sheila von Wiese-Mack – Heather’s mom – in an upmarket hotel. The modern-day Romeo and Juliet were accused of dumping her destroyed body in a suitcase.
According to investigators, the duo plotted the murder in a bid to cash in on Heather’s inheritance. Heather was pregnant at the time, and now their daughter, Stella, nearly two, lives with her in the jail. Nearby, Schaefer is currently serving an 18-year sentence, while Mack is facing only ten.
The future looked bleak for both until recently, when Heather admitted in a YouTube video that she had framed Schaefer, 23, after he refused to help her hire a hitman to axe her mom. “I made it up in my heart, in my mind, and my soul, in my blood, in the oxygen running through my body that I wanted to kill my mother,” she said in the footage.
An insider told Radar that the stress of being wrongfully accused has caused Schaefer to suffer psychiatric issues, involving violent mood swings and depression. As such, the prison governors have put him on “high suicide watch,” the source said, which means he is subject to precautionary measures such as eating under supervision.
"He's at very high risk," a prison friend told Radar. "That junkie b***h has ruined his life and Stella's. He talks about revenge, he wishes she was dead. We've put him on meds and he's on intensive therapy, but that's not enough"
"He does yoga to try and chill himself out, draws art and uses the gym," added the insider. But his ex's prison behavior is only making matters worse for him and their daughter.
“She’s done nothing but cause trouble and now she’s addicted to ‘Shabu, the local crystal meth,” the source went on. “She won’t keep her mouth shut and every time she speaks, she makes it worse for herself and Tommy.”
Tormented Schaefer has often declared his innocence to Tommy is facing his own financial crisis as he has struggles to pay for his own cell in the prison — including $300 per month alone for food — and is running out of money.
His mom, Kia Walker, is using the family savings to pay lawyer fees to petition for custody of her granddaughter. “His heartbroken family are absolutely outraged, saying he was questioned without a lawyer present and was coerced into a plea agreement , thinking he’d get a maximum of a couple of years,” the insider said.
