The album made its official debut on Bowie's birthday, just two days before he died. Meanwhile, the "Space Oddity" hit-maker appeared frail in SoHo in October 2013.

Before that, in Feb. 2013, the notoriously reclusive star was spotted entering a residential building in SoHo, carrying an umbrella and shopping bags.

The shocking news of his passing was first released on Bowie's social media pages late Sunday night, following the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," the official statement read, shared by Bowie's supermodel wife Iman. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
