Scream Queens star Emma Roberts' own family history reads like a horror movie script! RadarOnline.com looks at the Roberts family's darkest secrets and scandals.

Emma's dad Eric was born into a fractured family in 1956 Mississippi. His parents Walter and Betty Lou Roberts divorced in 1972 when he was 15, sister Lisa was 5, and Julia was 3.

Betty Lou had fallen in love with a local painter named Michael Motes.

In court documents filed in the bitter custody fight, Walter accused Betty Lou of staying out late at night, and leaving Julia and her sister Lisa without adult supervision. The court documents also accused Motes of striking Eric and mistreating Julia and Lisa.

Eric was eventually ordered to live with Walter, while the girls stayed with Betty Lou and Michael.

Just five years later, however, tragedy struck. Walter, his new wife, and Eric were in a tragic boating accident and Eric watched his new stepmom drown before his eyes.

Just three months later, his dad Walter died of cancer!

Betty Lou then battled Eric in court over the terms of his will. The two were estranged for years after that.

Meanwhile, there was drama for his sibling as well. Betty Lou married Michael Motes in 1972 and Eric later said, "It was common knowledge where we grew up that Motes was a freak. He terrorized and abused me, and I fear he terrorized my sisters, Julia and Lisa, as well."

In a 1992 interview with The National ENQUIRER, a man named Shawn Melton claimed Motes blackmailed him into having gay sex for five years when he was a teen, and that Motes passed him around as a sex slave.

Melton said Motes was "a serial abuser of children" and said he tried "to get him charged with a crime" but "was never successful."

When asked specifically about those sex abuse allegations, Motes said, "There are a lot of misconceptions." And when The ENQUIRER asked him about the other claims, he said, "I don't give interviews."

Betty Lou and Michael Motes divorced in 1982 and he later came out as gay.

Trouble seemed to follow Eric throughout his life. In 1981, he was in a devastating car crash that left him near death. He needed extensive plastic surgery to rebuild his face.

In 1995, he was arrested for assaulting his wife at the time, Eliza. LAPD officers were called to his home on February 8 over reports of a loud and violent argument. "The suspect pushed the victim, causing her to hit her head against the wall," officer Sandra Castello told The ENQUIRER at the time.

Eric was taken to jail where he was booked and released on $50,000 bail. But Eliza refused to press charges, saying "It was nothing -- this is all getting blown out of proportion." Roberts later said it all happened "because I had decided to quit drugs I was on for depression … cold turkey, and it was hell for me." He said wife Eliza forgave him and made him "a calmer person."

Two years later, however, he was arrested again in NYC for attempted assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of cocaine and marijuana. Cops had found him banging on a woman's door. When he was ordered to stop, he swung at and missed the cop. The drug and assault charges were dropped but he pleaded guilty to harassing the woman and got probation.

In the early 1990s, he and live-in girlfriend Kelly Cunningham had a brutal custody battle over daughter Emma.

They became engaged not long after, but in June 2015, it was reported they had ended their engagement.
