Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost: From SNL to Engagement

Most of us watch Saturday Night Live for the jokes — but for some, like Scarlett Johansson, it’s also a great place to watch her future spouse. She met her now-fiancé Colin Jost on set.

They met almost a decade ago while working together on Saturday Night Live, but it took seven years for their friendship to spark into a relationship. And heads have turned since the Avengers star and the Weekend Update presenter have gotten closer and closer.

1. November, 2010.
Johansson’s first impressions of Jost came when she appeared in a Saturday Night Live sketch he had written and was codirecting. She told The Hollywood Reporter, “He seemed very confident at the time. I don't know if he felt that way, but in that environment, if you're not confident as a writer, your stuff just never gets produced.”
2. March, 2017.
Fast forward seven years and ScarJo is back at SNL, but this time things are different. For one, she had filed for divorce from her second husband just two months earlier. And two, Jost himself — AKA CoJo — was newly single after parting ways with Rashida Jones.
3. May, 2017.
Sometime shortly after that, SNL cast-member Kate McKinnon reportedly worked her magic, and she set the two up on a date. By the time a cast party happened in May, both ScarJo and CoJo were reportedly making out at the bar in front of everyone.
4. July, 2017.
They were first spotted out together in public just over a month later. They were seen on a dinner date at The Palm in East Hampton and again a few days later in Montauk, NY at Ditch Plains Beach.
5. September, 2017.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, CoJo finally opened up publicly about his feelings for ScarJo. He said, “She's pretty cool. It's hard to have a lot of complaints … she's pretty awesome."
6. November, 2017.
Things began to turn serious when they both celebrated ScarJo’s birthday at a party in the Hamptons with both families present. One source said, "They're very much in love. It's serious. They're both very respectful of each other's careers and very supportive. They're super-cute together."
7. November, 2017. Again.
November was also the first time they made an official appearance together — at the 2017 American Museum of Natural History Gala.
8. December, 2017.
ScarJo was back on SNL and, if you looked carefully, back in CoJo’s arms. As the show closed out, the cast could be seen ice-skating, and the pair were seen holding hands while skating.
9. April, 2018.
The Avengers: Infinity War film premiere saw the couple walking the red carpet together. That same day, ScarJo appeared on Ellen where she admitted to being a “Colin fan.”

It may have been a Weekend Update bit, but CoJo admitted to having a girlfriend. It came during a bit with Leslie Jones where Jost said, “I told you I have a girlfriend.” A week or so later, ScarJo and CoJo attended the Met Gala as a couple.
11. September, 2018.
ScarJo and CoJo attended the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards together — the same Emmy’s which saw Jost cohost with fellow SNL star Michael Che.
12. May, 2019.
After two years of dating, Johansson and Jost were engaged. This will be her third wedding and his first. No wedding date has been set yet, but keep your eyes peeled.
