Wallace Safford was the "Purple Rain" singer's bodyguard in the late 1980s — and a friend before that.

"Prince was a client in the beginning of his career," Safford told RadarOnline.com.

"When we filmed Purple Rain, that was the prime of his life right there," Safford revealed.

Prince was often seen out at nightclubs during that period, including the notorious Studio 54, where he hosted a "Purple Rain" party on March 22, 1985.
Sanford told RadarOnline.com, "He partied, but he didn't party."

"No drugs," Safford insisted. Despite the rumors, "He didn't do drugs. Not at all."
