Hollywood has a long history of cinematic nudity, which is hardly a shock. But there is also the rare thespian who takes it all off for the camera and lets the world see their most private of privates. Sit back and prepare for this hot list.
Here are the 36 celebrities who have done full frontal nudity!
Margot Robbie in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’
There were many extreme scenes in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated The Wolf of Wall Street. The way Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) lived was impeccably captured by the filmmaking legend. Part of his life were his sexual liaisons with countless women, including one who would become his wife — Naomi Lapaglia (Margot Robbie). To accurately portray this scene, Robbie had to appear completely naked. The Australian actress had some hesitation about whether to accept the role that she was offered because of the complete nudity that it would require. MTV News reported that the Oscar nominee said that she felt “embarrassed” by the scene — especially about filming in front of a crew of over 30 men. Robbie entered the movie business with one firm rule — no nudity. But this was an opportunity to work with Scorsese ... her team told her, “If there was ever a time in your career to do nudity, this was it,” she recalled to MTV News. “It’s this project with this director. That’s the sacrifice I’m willing to make to have this opportunity.”
Ben Affleck in ‘Gone Girl’
Don't blink! Ben Affleck's little friend made quite a quick appearance during a shower scene in Gone Girl.
Olivia Wilde in ‘Third Person’
Olivia Wilde got to wear a comfortable terrycloth robe in Third Person, but in a scene with costar Liam Neeson, she didn’t get to wear it long. Soon after the actor opened his hotel room door in the Paul Haggis-directed drama, Wilde dropped the white robe while standing in the hallway naked. Visiting the Late Show with David Letterman to promote the film, the better half of Jason Sudeikis admitted that it’s one thing to be nude in a scene, another to have to be physical in a way that is anything but sexy. “This was a scene in which I was running downstairs naked — which no one should ever do on camera. It's awkward. There's things that no one should see. The body does things that it's not supposed to!" she was quoted in PopCrush.
Angelina Jolie in ‘Gia’
Angelina Jolie revealed another side of herself when she portrayed the supermodel Gia Carangi in the 1998 HBO biopic Gia.
Chris Pine in ‘Outlaw King’
Sometimes an actor or actress will do full nudity to create a sense of reality. Most of us are reaching for the sheets or a towel when lounging around in our birthday suits. But for Chris Pine in the Netflix movie Outlaw King, the actor decided to get fully nude because anything else during that particular scene would have felt fake and insincere. Vulture described the scene as “our hero strips off his tunic and — surprise! — exposes his royal todger to the world.” Pine also did it because he felt that it would help to equalize a double standard. “I bear the ‘full monty’ and it got a lot of attention, but what did strike me most is that Florence Pugh bares everything too and no one commented. I am not sure what that means. Either people think they can’t comment, or everyone expects women to get naked. Either way, it’s double standards,” he was quoted as saying in The Muse.
Richard Gere in ‘American Gigolo’
Back in 1980, Richard Gere was on the nude forefront and aroused moviegoers' interest when he did a full frontal nude scene in American Gigolo.
Scarlett Johansson in ‘Under the Skin’
Like Robbie before her, Johansson had said that she would never be nude in a film, much less full frontal nudity. Then she read the script for Under the Skin and was so taken with her character’s journey that she committed to the role, even though she would have to spend some longer scenes wearing absolutely nothing. The Huffington Post quoted the actress from a press conference discussing those challenging cinematic moments. “I’m not a provocative person,” she said. “The first time I saw it I was terrified, partly because of things like the nudity. I didn’t know how that was going to be used. I didn’t know how naked my performance would be figuratively.”
Emile Hirsch in ‘Taking Woodstock’
Emile Hirsch delivered a stand-up performance in Taking Woodstock.
Ralph Fiennes in ‘A Bigger Splash’
Australian website KillYourDarlings.com.au reports that there was a lot of nudity in the film A Bigger Splash. Surprisingly, Dakota Johnson (of Fifty Shades fame) was not the one running around naked, but British actor Ralph Fiennes was too. According to the Australian site, it was Fiennes “whose body is most frequently exposed.” The film was from director Luca Guadagnino, who gave us the supremely sultry and Oscar-winning Call Me By Your Name, so its equal opportunity sensuality should hardly surprise.
Sharon Stone in ‘Basic Instinct’
Sharon Stone's infamous flashing scene in Basic Instinct earned her — and her private parts — a place in movie history.
Viggo Mortensen in ‘Captain Fantastic’
Viggo Mortensen is no stranger to nudity. His performance in Captain Fantastic was interesting because most actors think deeply about the merits of their getting naked, but he didn’t need to. According to ShowBizz411, the director of the Fantastic film, Shivani Rawat, stated that “Viggo was so immersed in the role and didn’t balk at all.”
Christian Bale in ‘American Psycho’
Christian Bale expertly wielded a chainsaw and his private member in the role of Patrick Bateman for American Psycho.
Alexandra Daddario in ‘True Detective’
Exploring whether or not to do full frontal nudity for an actor or actress can also happen when someone needs to bust out of being typecast. It worked for Hathaway, and Alexandra Daddario employed the same logic following kiddie roles in films like Percy Jackson when she hoped to be taken seriously as a mature actress. The scene involved the actress and Woody Harrelson and showed her stripping down to nothing while her costar was handcuffed to the bed. “She’s totally confused and messed up, so I understood the nudity required for the character,” Daddario confessed to Vanity Fair. “I tried not to think about how risqué it got because I got into it, but after I did it, I was like, ‘Whoa, what did I just do?’”
Nicole Kidman in ‘Eyes Wide Shut’
Nicole Kidman had wide-eyed fans' in shock when she appeared naked in Eyes Wide Shut with her then-husband, Tom Cruise.
James McAvoy in ‘The Last King of Scotland’
Forest Whitaker won an Oscar for Best Actor with his role as dictator Idi Amin opposite James McAvoy. The film was also a role that required the X-Men star to show off his privates. According to E! News, the actor portrayed a fictional Scottish doctor who tended to Whitaker’s Amin, and in one scene he was seen getting out of bed without any clothing.
Heather Graham ‘Boogie Nights’
Actress Heather Graham flashed a whole lot of flesh as Brandi in the 1997 hit Boogie Nights, a movie centered on the ‘70s porn seen in L.A.
Rooney Mara in ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’
Full frontal nudity is not always sexy or even meant to be that way. A perfect example of that was when Rooney Mara was naked in the American version of author Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She was fully exposed in a rape scene in a moment that truly defined the character of Lisbeth Salander. Mara told Allure, “Nudity is such a huge part of the character in the book, so I never thought twice about it. There was no time for hesitation. I didn’t have time to second-guess anything or be scared; I just showed up and was comfortable.”

Gilles Marini earned a top spot in the full frontal pecker pecking order when he shot a shower scene for Sex and the City completely in the buff.
Dakota Johnson in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Trilogy
Johnson famously showed it all in the big screen trilogy that was based on E.L. James’ kinky page-turner. The daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith had to know that because of the S&M and heavily sexualized subject matter, she might just have to take her clothes off frequently. Johnson portrayed Anastasia Steele for three films — Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. There was a lot of sex shown in the films and much of its lead actress shown … including full frontal nudity. She tackled it like a champ, but Johnson admitted that one scene in the final film of the series was especially difficult. It was hard — not simply because she had to bare it all head to toe — but because of the nature of the scene itself. "Ana's chained to a drop-down gate that is in the red room and blindfolded, and she's handcuffed by her wrists and feet,” Johnson recalled to Elle. “That was difficult, because no matter how much you know that the environment is not real and how much you are protected and safe and can work at your own speed, your senses are deprived.”
Elle Macpherson in ‘Sirens’
Model Elle Macpherson proudly showed off her assets when she appeared in the buff in the 1994 movie Sirens.
Anne Hathaway in ‘Brokeback Mountain’
Anne Hathaway was introduced to playing a princess in Disney’s Princess Diaries and its sequel. In order to make the transition to more mature actress, she needed a way to tell the world (and specifically casting agents) that she was up for anything that would be required of an actor or actress above the age of 18. The first film where she truly exposed herself was in the teen drama Havoc, but it was Brokeback Mountain where she had to go full Monty. She also showed much of herself in Love and Other Drugs with her Brokeback Mountain costar, Jake Gyllenhaal. Her attitude about nudity was quite matter of fact. “It is just part of the job,” Hathaway was quoted on Fox News. “That being said, it is intensely mortifying taking your clothes off in front of other people, but it is also intensely mortifying doing a lot of things in front of people and I’ve learned how to deal with that.”
Halle Berry in ‘Monsters Ball’
Halle Berry's body of work includes her Oscar-winning turn, which included a nude sex scene, in Monsters Ball.
Tom Cruise in ‘All the Right Moves’
File this celebrity full frontal nudity as taking one for the team. Ever the gentleman, superstar Cruise was merely an up-and-coming actor when he made the high school football flick All the Right Moves. His costar, Lea Thompson, and Cruise were about to have a love scene and it required that she expose her breasts. Cruise reported that he sensed that the actress (who would go on to star in the Back to the Future trilogy) was beyond nervous and felt that if he went fully naked, it would help. It did. She told Closer Weekly that she was floored by Cruise’s support and it helped immensely. She recalled him saying, “Well, if she has to be naked, I’ll be naked, too.” She added, “That’s pretty bada--! I’ve always been grateful to him for standing up to the producers.”
Kate Winslet in ‘Holy Smoke’
Holy Smoke, Indeed! Kate Winslet didn't have to rely on smoke and mirrors when she bared her body in Holy Smoke.
Rosario Dawson in ‘Trance’
Actresses and actors are continually discussing nudity and how if it exists within the framework of the storytelling arc and aids in that process, they are much more eager to do it. Director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) created the psychological thriller, Trance, with Rosario Dawson and McAvoy as the leads. Dawson was game given that it was integral to the story itself. She shared her thoughts with E! News. "You understand that this is a really key part to the puzzle," she said in regards to her nudity in Trance. "It can't be sacrificed. It's not going to be cut out later. So, don't even audition for it if you're not willing to go there. It's not negotiable."
Jason Segel in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall’
Remember when Jason Segel tooled around in a scene opposite Kristin Bell in Forgetting Sarah Marshall?
Jamie Dornan in the Fifty Shades Trilogy
While Johnson is acknowledged for her work in the Fifty Shades trilogy, her partner in cinematic sex also went public. Jamie Dornan, who played Christian Grey, joined his costar in the nude department. During the press tour for the film, Dornan (and his director James Foley) admitted that his “wee” (Dornan’s word!) has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it movie moment. Foley told UK’s The Express that "there were actually scenes that we shot where it was full-frontal nudity."
Jude Law in ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’
In 1999, Jude Law exposed his biggest hidden talent in The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Red Sparrow’
After having hacked photos of her completely naked flashed across the internet, Jennifer Lawrence found a way to take control of her privates. The Oscar-winning actress undressed during a pivotal scene in the spy thriller Red Sparrow. She played a Russian spy who was trained to use her sex to accomplish whatever she needed. In one particular moment, in front of her peers, she was asked to remove all of her clothing. NME reported that there was a psychological impact to her nude pictures getting hacked. These were images solely meant for her boyfriend at the time and not for the entire planet. She said that immediately after there was “a long period when I didn’t want to be seen sexually and I didn’t want anybody to see my flesh.” Talking with the Today Show in Australia she stated, “It was really scary to say yes to the movie because I knew the only way to tell the story is if I agreed to really do the scenes and go full Monty. It took a while to say yes. The night before I didn’t sleep at all. I was obviously really nervous because it is the actual nightmare of standing in front of a classroom naked. But then after I finished the scene, I felt empowered.” As she saw it, Lawrence took back the power of the hackers.
Jason Biggs in ‘American Pie’
Pies, superglue, pot lids. American Pie actor Jason Bigg's little man has a lot of acting under his belt.
Sally Hawkins in ‘The Shape of Water’
The Shape of Water won Best Picture at the Oscars when a woman (Sally Hawkins) falls in love with an aquatic creature (Doug Jones) in a story from Guillermo del Toro. Hawkins was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Elisa, a mute cleaning woman at a high-tech U.S. Cold War facility who finds her “voice” when her romance with the Amphibian Man begins. One of their love scenes involved Hawkins getting fully nude. For del Toro, the nudity was meant to empower Elisa and to show that although she cannot speak, she said what she wanted to with her body. Del Toro admitted that he was probably more nervous for the scene than his actress. "I want to do her beauty some justice," the filmmaker told RogerEbert.com.
Kevin Bacon in ‘Wild Things’
A lot of viewers had to hit the showers after seeing Kevin Bacon bare all during a steamy scene in 1998's Wild Things.
Ewan McGregor in ‘Trainspotting’ and more …

Michael Fassbender in ‘Shame’

Carey Mulligan in ‘Shame’
Not to be outdone, Carey Mulligan had a big reveal of her own in Shame.
Elizabeth Berkley in ‘Showgirls’
Not even the bell could save Elizabeth Berkley from the controversy she stirred up for going nude in the 1995 movie Showgirls.
