Mateen had been living in Apartment 107 in the Woodland Condominium in Fort Pierce, Florida at the time of the deadly shooting. An MLS listing for the unit from October 2015 claimed to show photos of the property.
Authorities raided the apartment on Sunday, hours after Mateen opened fire at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, on June 12, 2016, slaughtering 49 and injuring 53.
Mateen lived in the apartment with his wife, Noor Zahi Salman, and their three-year-old son. The child was a fan of Star Wars and Spiderman and the Daily Mail reported that the place was decorated with cartoon memorabilia.
"Everyone around here says, 'Good morning,' or 'How are you doing' — just, you know, common talk — and he Mateen never said anything," a neighbor told WesternJournalism.com.
Other apartments in the building were renting for between $600 and $1000. Mateen reportedly earned $1600 a month at G4S Secure Solutions in Jupiter.
There was one picture of a mosque on the wall, but the rest of the pictures seen were family photographs, the Daily Mail said.
Mateen's first wife, Sitora Yusufiy, claimed in court documents that she wanted to escape the "mentally ill" madman.
According to reports, the back door of the apartment had been pried open, and authorities suspected a break-in after the horrific shooting.
The 29-year-old gunman was shot dead by police as he tried to escape from the club.
The FBI secured the apartment following the deadly massacre.
