Mel Gibson's fading father is trapped, spending his last days hidden away in the actor's private Catholic chapel, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.
Hutton Gibson, 98, is getting 24/7 care from staffers at the Church of the Holy Family in Agoura Hills, Calif., according to an insider.
A source close to the ailing dad told RadarOnline.com that Mel wants his father to spend his final days on the hilltop, where he'll be looked after.
"Hutton used to go out for lunch to a local café, but hasn't been seen in public for months" the source said.
"He's holed up in the church."

As RadarOnline.com has reported, Mel's daddy is said to be just as outspoken as his famous son, and drew criticism after he questioned how the Nazi's disposed of six million Jews during World War 2 in a New York Times Magazine article.
"Go and ask an undertaker or the guy who operates the crematorium what it takes to get rid of a dead body," he said. "It takes one liter of petrol and 20 minutes. Now, (multiply that by) six million."
Hutton filed for divorce from second wife Teddy Joye in 2012.
She had previously filed for a restraining order against Mel, claiming the Hacksaw Ridge director threatened her, tried to sabotage her marriage and even SPAT in her face during a heated fight — which he denied.
Friends now fear Mel, who's been sober for 10 years, but was seen stumbling around a supermarket, could fall off the wagon if he loses his father.
