Meghan Markle got a royal slam when a woman called her "fat lady" at the London animal charity Mayhew on Wednesday, January 16 and the pregnant Duchess of Sussex responded to the jab in the most royal way.
It happened as Markle, currently expecting her first baby with husband Prince Harry, shook hands with care home resident Peggy McEachrom.
“Lovely lady you are! May the good lord always bless you. And you’re a fat lady!” McEachrom told Meghan, as seen in a video tweeted by The Sun royal correspondent Emily Andrews.
Markle, 37, immediately let out a big belly laugh, responding, “I’ll take it!”
The former Suits star may have been all smiles during her meet-and-greet, but it’s been a difficult week for the new royal – and her staff. Check out this RadarOnline.com gallery to learn more about the turmoil behind-the-scenes.
Last week, Kensington Palace named Mayhew as one of Markle’s official patronages.
The Queen noted Markle’s extreme passion for animal welfare when making her decision.
Her other three patronages are The National Theatre, The Association of Commonwealth Universities and Smart Works, the latter of which she visited last week.
But it hasn’t been all smiles and puppy dogs for the royal diva lately.
As RadarOnline.com reported, Markle’s trusted female bodyguard is quitting her job.
The personal guard was said to be too concerned that Markle was shunning her security, in an effort to remain “one of the people.”
“Unlike someone who has grown up in the royal family and has been used to having close protection from an early age, it can be quite constraining,” a source told RadarOnline.com.
“Even though she was a famous actress, she could still do what she wanted in the way of getting around freely,” the source added. “But in her current role she can’t go anywhere without her protection team and that’s a massive constraining force on an individual like her.”
The bodyguard is just the latest member of Markle’s staff to jump ship.
Her personal assistant, Melissa Touabti, left Kensington Palace last year after just six months.
Meanwhile, her private secretary, Samantha Cohen, is also expected to leave later this year, after 17 years of working for the British Royals.
Markle is set to welcome her first child with Harry in April. And while they don’t know what the sex will be, both are said to be hoping for a girl.
