Kate, 43, appeared on stage in Los Angeles on Feb. 12, 2019 with her 18-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mady, to talk about her new dating show and didn’t mention that her ex-husband Jon had custody of Collin.
Jon recently revealed that Kate had “zero” contact with their son Collin. Jon & Kate Plus 8 gave the family fame but ultimately destroyed their marriage and the TLC show ended.
Collin had been sent to a boarding school for children with special needs but was living with his father in rural Pennsylvania. Jon slammed Kate for saying he was “not on any spectrum.”
On stage Kate talked about her new reality show, saying she was afraid of growing old alone. I “started picturing myself sitting in a rocking chair, knitting, and words like ‘old maid’ and ‘spinster’ started to come to mind, and I realized that no, I don't want that to be my fate,” she said.
Kate’s daughter Hannah also lives with her father, while the rest of the siblings, Aaden, Joel, Alexis and Leah and the twins lived with her.
Kate described why she returned to reality television. “If I'm going to date someone, I can't just go out on a date — it's creepy to me to think of just going out somewhere with some stranger, and so I actually feel like doing it like this is the best and safest way for me to go on a date — a camera crew will be there!”
