Even though her mother just died, leaving her with only one parent, Jen chose to spend Father's Day in New York City while her Greek papa spent the holiday with his grandchildren.

Leaning heavily on a stroller for support, former Hollywood A-lister John, now 82, was a forlorn figure on the family holiday. His famous daughter Jen failed to visit him at his California home, instead choosing to remain in New York, wining, dining and shopping with her husband, Justin Theroux.

John's other child AJ, his adult son with current wife Sherry Rooney, was also a no-show. John, who has been battling poor health since his reported 2006 heart attack, is believed to be devastated by the snub.

But it wasn't all bad news for the legendary Days of Our Lives actor. While his biological children might have snubbed him on the special holiday, his baby grandchildren were on hand to brighten up John's day.

AJ's ex-girlfriend and baby mama brought their two children to have lunch with John and Rooney at a gorgeous waterfront restaurant. AJ's one-year-old son, Ryat, and newborn daughter, Kira Rose, spent the day with their grandfather.

Tattooed AJ lives a nomadic life, traveling up and down the West Coast of America. He despises the celebrity life of his dad and sister, once angrily telling a reporter that being related to them "has been a pain in my a** for years".

But Adriene has clearly prioritized family, introducing her kids to their granddad John.

"John reached out to Adriane," says a source. "He might not have the best relationship with Jen or AJ, but he's determined to be in the lives of his grandchildren and their mother."

And it appears that John adores the little ones, who some of his features. "He had the little boy on his lap at lunch, proudly showing him a new Apple watch which looked like a Father's Day gift," said a witness at the restaurant. "He was doting on the children – and he was doting on their mom as well."

"You could tell that they were all really close," said the source.

Insiders are surprised that Jen, 47, isn't making more of an effort to spend time with John – especially given that her mom Nancy Dow died just last month. "Jen of all people should know now that time with your parents is precious as they get older," said an Aniston insider.
