Hollywood film legend Jeff Bridges has been spotted showing off a series of nasty scars that reveal a shocking medical secret: According to insiders, he recently underwent a life-saving hernia operation!

"There's absolutely no question that he's had the surgery," said Dr. Lyle Back, a plastic surgeon with more than two decades of experience, who has not treated Bridges.

The 66-year-old Oscar winner was forced to see his doctor after suffering a crippling "surge of pain," said an insider, and his doctor then ordered the hernia surgery.

If left untreated, a hernia can be fatal. It can become "strangulated" and cut off blood flow to the intestines. The condition requires immediate surgery.

"The scars — the two on the left and two on the right across from the belly — are a clear sign of hernia surgery," Dr. Back added. "He had a laparoscopic procedure to gain access to the abdominal wall."

Bridges is now winning glowing reviews for the movie drama Hell or High Water, but the actor ballooned to over 300 pounds for the role, putting his health in serious risk, according to medical experts.

"That kind of weight gain can lead to 65 different illnesses, including prostate cancer and heart disturbances," said Dr. Stuart Fischer, who has not treated Bridges.
