Inside Kim Kardashian's Scary Rush To The Doctor

Kim Kardashian has officially given birth to her second child with husband Kanye West, but her pregnancy ended with a scary trip to the doctor!

Kardashian had to undergo a painful procedure in an attempt to deliver her child without a c-section.

The procedure is called External Cephalic Version, and involved doctors turning Kim Kardashian's breach son around in the uterus so that he was positioned to travel head-first through the birth canal.

The procedure was successful for the 35-year-old mom, who delivered her son Dec. 5. But if the procedure had gone wrong, the results could have been disastrous.

Dr. Elliot Berlin did not perform the procedure, but helped Kardashian prepare to have the baby turned.

We work with the mother's body," he told OK! Magazine. "If we can improve the muscles and bones around the lower back, hips and pelvis, we could make for a smoother delivery."

The doctor spent weeks massaging the pregnant mom's ligaments to make them less stiff and more agreeable to the procedure before handing Kardashian off to a specialist. "They try to turn the baby by pushing down low by her pelvis and another doctor pushing the opposite direction on the head to manually turn the baby," he explained.

While Kardashian was lucky enough to walk away with a favorable result, there was one side-effect that was unavoidable.

"It tends to be painful," the doctor said. "Unlike child birth, where people can opt for medication to numb the pain, they don't have the option during the procedure."
