In the summer of 1997, Andrew Cunanan left San Diego and embarked on a cross-country killing spree, leaving behind victims in Minneapolis, Chicago, New Jersey and South Beach. Click through RadarOnline.com’s gallery to find out more about the lives he ruined, including the last person he killed, fashion designer Gianni Versace.
Cunanan’s own mom blasted her 28-year-old son, telling police he was a “high-class homosexual prostitute” who was often spotted in San Diego in the company of older and wealthy gentleman. Before he embarked on his killing spree, Cunanan tried to keep up with his ritzy lifestyle, but he maxed out his credit cards in the process.
The cold-blooded killer first showed just how ruthless he was when he traveled from San Diego to Minneapolis, where he took a hammer and murdered his latest hookup, 28-year-old former Navy lieutenant Jeffrey Trail, and an old boyfriend, architect David Madsen, 33.
The college dropout next proved he had a penchant for torture when he headed to Chicago, where he wrapped 72-year-old real estate tycoon Lee Miglin’s head in masking tape, leaving holes for the man’s nostrils, and stabbed him dozens of times. The crime, the victim’s mom later said, was “a worse death than Christ.”
Cunanan then fled to New Jersey, where he shot 45-year-old cemetery caretaker William Reese in the head. The killer stole Reese’s truck and left behind the Lexus he had stolen from Miglin in Chicago.
Cunanan caught up with his fifth and final victim, Versace, on the steps of his palatial beachside home in South Beach, Florida. Cunanan shot Versace in the head. The ruthless killer committed suicide days later. We pay for juicy info! Do you have a story for RadarOnline.com?
