George Michael’s family members believe that if exposed, the Wham! star’s burial place will immediately be plagued by obsessed fans and grave ghouls.
A source close to them said: “Since George’s death, his most obsessed fans have come out of the woodwork. They have annoyed his neighbors in London by constantly holding vigils outside his house.”
“And the level of their obsession has highlighted to his family how important it is to keep his burial spot as secret as possible as they genuinely fear his fans are so mad they might attempt to dig up his body,” added the insider.
Michael was laid to rest next to his mother, Lesley Panayiotou, at London’s Highgate Cemetery in March 2017 after his lover Fadi Fawaz found him dead in his bed on Christmas Day 2016.
His cause of death was put down to heart defects and a fatty liver after his decades of abusing cannabis, cocaine and booze
Yet more than two years after the tragedy, Michael still has no headstone — a fact which has prompted his fans to blast his family as “sick” on social media.
But the RadarOnline.com source said the singer’s loved ones made the choice with the “most honorable intentions” as they don’t want his resting place marred by “stalkers.”
The public are also barred from visiting the plot where Michael lies at Highgate – with the cemetery’s website declaring his burial spot is not included in its tourist trail of the famous graveyard.
The insider added the family’s fears are justified as when the singer was alive one of his most obsessed female fans hid under his floorboards for four days before she was discovered!
