The Guardian newspaper reported that the state-run Chinese newspaper Securities Daily reported that Bingbing had been put “under control," and would accept the legal decision,” in the case. The Guardian stated that the report by Securities Daily was taken down shortly after it was posted.
Bingbing was reportedly involved in an investigation over celebrity “yin-yang contracts,” where actors have two contracts – one that lists their real salary and another with a smaller figure that is given to tax authorities.
Taiwan News reported that the Securities Daily report quoted an influential figure in Beijing who said Bingbing was still in prison and "it's really tragic, and won't be able to get out." The article said her “yin-yang contracts” were only the "tip of the iceberg" of her legal problems.
Bingbing starred in the 2014 movie X-Men: Days of Future Past as Blink and was known world-wide for her red carpet fashions.
Her last Instagram post was on May 23, 2018 when she posted a photo of a fan copying her red-carpet look in a dress made out of kale. “So cute,” she captioned the photo that copied her Karoui Couture dress, which she paired with De Beers jewelry at the Everybody Knows premiere on May 8, 2018.
