Chelsea Manning, who turned government secrets over to Wikileaks, was spotted in New York City just days after being released from prison after her sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama. Click through Radar’s gallery to see her new look before her first big television interview.
Manning, 29, visited an optometrist in the Big Apple on June 1, 2017. She was released from prison on May 17 after seven years spent behind bars for her Wikileaks crimes.
She was wearing a gray sweatshirt, brown pants and a brown shirt with heavy eye makeup. While imprisoned she was ordered to follow male grooming standards, but her attorney said, upon her release, that she planned to grow her hair out.
Manning, previously known as Bradley, was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to 35 years in prison for charges of espionage and theft of military records that she handed over to WikiLeakes. The leaked documents included a video of an airstrike in Baghdad in 2007, where two Reuters photographers were killed.
She was active on her Twitter account after her prison release. “Hey, its the first of the month - also its the first day for me to just hang out and chill for awhile - its been a busy few weeks,” she wrote on June 1.
Manning was reportedly in NYC to film an interview with Dateline.
She released a statement after President Obama commuted her sentence, saying: “The past will always affect me, and I will keep that in mind while remembering that how it played out is only my starting point - not my final destination.”
President Donald Trump ripped Manning after she criticized President Obama after her sentence was commuted. “Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader. Terrible!" he Tweeted about her. We pay for juicy info! Do you have a story for RadarOnline.com? Email us at email@example.com, or call us at (866) ON-RADAR (667-2327) any time, day or night.
