Beyond Bieber! Selena Gomez’s Dating History

It’s fun to answer the question, “Who is Selena Gomez dating?” The results feature some enormous names in the pop culture world. There are some truly famous folks — such as Taylor Lautner and, of course, Justin Bieber.

Some may think that Bieber was her first love, but that is actually not the case. Other celebrity charmers came first! Like who? The star, who got her start on The Wizards of Waverly Place, might have dated her costar on that tween smash hit. Fast forward to her latest boyfriends, and there is an enormous pop star — whose name is not Bieber — plus a few actors who enjoyed Gomez’s company.

One thing that is common among her former suitors (save one) is that they all ended their romance with the Bad Liar singer singing her praises. So who exactly is part of the Selena Gomez dating history?

For a few months in 2008, fans of youthful music were in heaven when these two artists were dating — Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and Gomez. In October of 2015, Gomez was asked about her relationship with the youngest Jonas and whether those rumors were true. She looked at Andy Cohen, and without missing a beat said, “I dated him!” Cohen really does get the truth out of everyone!

Vancouver, British Columbia is a hot spot for the movie and television industry. The country offers major tax breaks, and the incentives are too much for Tinsel Town to resist. It also is a city where artists working on different projects might get together. Perfect example being Gomez and Lautner. The actress was in town in early 2009 working on Ramona and Beezus, and Lautner was making a little independent film called Twilight: New Moon. Although the two didn’t work out beyond Vancouver, Gomez had nothing but heartfelt praise for the heartthrob. She told Us Weekly, “He is so sweet. Taylor has made me so happy. I didn't know I could be that happy."

The singer/actress had the rumor mill buzzing when Mark Salling and Gomez were seen chatting with each other during the Teen Choice Awards, which the late Glee actor was hosting. A friend of Gomez’s told RadarOnline.com Online that the two were flirting all night. “They were texting during the awards,” the friend reported. “Every time Mark came up on stage, she was beaming ear to ear.” Whatever it was, the pair were over before they began.

Are they or aren’t they could have easily been Gomez and Bieber’s theme. They were photographed together in Hawaii as a couple of cute kids finding love to the trials of being in an adult relationship as they both matured. It was challenging to keep up with what was happening, but it ended in 2015 — before it began again later on. Gomez told Elle (of the breakup) that “I'll forever support him and love him in a way that ... we grew up together. I think people want it to be different. We're too young for that.”

According to Zimbio, Gomez hooked up with actor Luke Bracey at a Golden Globes party. The fling was not out of nowhere as the two bonded while filming the movie Monte Carlo.

This rumored fling between Niall Horan and Gomez began when Horan’s band, One Direction, presented Gomez with the MTV VMA for Best Pop Video in 2013. The two reportedly (as seen in Us Weekly) dated periodically. They were spotted smooching at Jenna Dewan’s — who had an additional last name back then of Tatum! — 35th birthday party. They were also seen together, romantically, after the X Factor finale in December of 2015 in London.

One thing is for sure, Orlando Bloom likes brunette singers! The actor later became engaged to singer Katy Perry. One night, in April of 2014, he was seen out and about with Gomez, as chronicled in Us Weekly. Many believed it was a revenge hookup. Bloom was trying to get back at ex-wife, Miranda Kerr. Kerr had hooked up with Bieber — who as reported here — was in an on-again, off-again love affair with Gomez.

Collaborating on a recording or working together on a film or television set ... these are places where celebs seem to find love. DJ/Producer Zedd hooked up (musically) with Gomez in early 2015, and their musical chemistry fueled rumors that there were some romantic sparks as well between the two. Gomez told a radio show, The Edge Afternoons, that “I definitely had a thing with him, which was nice." Quotes obtained by Us Weekly from Zedd found that the music man was not prepared to date Gomez. “Reporters were calling my parents. People were hacking my friends’ phones. I was pissed,” he said.

Samuel Krost and Gomez were rumored to have dated for a few months. The duo have Gigi Hadid as a mutual friend, and she likely introduced them. Celeb watchers, including reports in Us Weekly, saw them on dates on both coasts — dining in Manhattan at Cipriani and hanging out at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Singer Charlie Puth dated Gomez for what many called “a hot minute.” Us Weekly reported that a source close to the pair said, “It's not serious, but she's super into him.” It didn’t last long at all, but certainly left its mark on Puth’s heart. He gave an interview in Billboard about it and turns out she was just not that into him. The “Marvin Gaye” singer told the music mag that it was “very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up." Ouch. Guess the hit song that they recorded together was prophetic, you know, “We Don’t Talk Anymore.” As Bieber appeared to come and go from Gomez’s life, it was the “Sorry” singer entering Gomez’s orbit once again that led Puth to say, “(expletive) you, Justin Bieber,” during a concert in March of 2016. So, Mr. Puth, how do you really feel?

The Weeknd and Gomez made a musically magnificent couple. They were first spotted kissing outside of the Santa Monica restaurant Giorgio Baldi. He had just broken up with Bella Hadid, and Gomez provided a soft landing for his heart. They took a trip to Italy together soon after, and this romance entered whirlwind status. They attended May’s Met Gala together and appeared to be the picture of happiness. Then, as Us Weekly found out … it fell apart. They credited the common reasons for celebrity splits — the inability to spend time together due to career demands.

Bieber was definitely a steady presence in Gomez’s life. Almost every time she ended a relationship, there was a Gomez-Bieber sighting. That was certainly the case for a few short months at the end of 2017 and through the first half of 2018. To say they were seriously dating would be an exaggeration, but they were certainly spending time together. It was Gomez, reportedly, who called it off as she looked to the future with Bieber and didn’t see herself in it. "Selena started seeing the bigger picture when it came to their relationship," a source told Us Weekly, "like what was more important: her general happiness and her family and friends’ approval, or her being together with Justin, where no one really supported their relationship." Soon enough, he moved on to Hailey Baldwin and married her in January of 2019.

The rumor mill was working overtime when Gomez was spotted on what appeared to be a date with Caleb Stevens. Although the pair had been spotted together, sources close to Gomez insist that the pair were “just friends,” as reported by OK!

Gomez is supposedly spending time with girlfriends and enjoying working on her career, both music and acting. According to Us Weekly, the artist is “focusing on her mental health and has been reading, exercising, eating well and spending time with her close friends and family. She isn’t necessarily looking to date right now. She’s great and in a really good place right now.” Good for her!
