Subway's golden boy-turned-convicted pedophile Jared Fogle has kept the weight off, and it's no thanks to the sandwich chain.
The 44-year-old former Subway spokesperson shared a recent photo of himself to show that he's still skinny despite eating nothing but prison food. According to Jared, it's all about staying conscious of what goes into your mouth.
"I try to avoid too much junk food. I snack on granola bars and protein bars. I feel really good physically and mentally," he wrote in a letter to the New York Post.
Jared rose to fame in 1999 after claiming he dropped a drastic amount of weight doing nothing but eating Subway foot-long sub every day. He reportedly collected $15 million by appearing in the sandwich chain's ads.
All that went south when he pled guilty to child pornography and paying for sex with an underage girl in 2015. He was ordered to 15 years in prison and to cough up $1.4 million in restitution to 14 of his victims.
Sharing the first photo of himself in years, Jared looks like a skinny shell of his former self — even after the initial weight loss. “I run four to five miles every day and am the most healthy and in shape I’ve ever been,” he wrote. “We don’t have a lot of control over our daily lives in prison but working out is one of the things I can control. I currently weigh 180 pounds.”
Despite bragging about his physique, Jared's letter held actual purpose. He expressed deep regret in his actions, and not just because they landed him in prison.
“I really royally screwed up to wind up where I am,” he admitted in the handwritten note from November. “I was selfish and entitled.”
According to Jared, he's making the most out of life behind bars. “Something like, ‘You can either get busy living or get busy dying’ when you are sent to prison. I’ve done everything I can to get busy living and make the most of this unwanted experience," he wrote.
Besides working out and maintaining a balanced diet, Jared said being locked up gives him plenty of time to reflect and think “about all the people I’ve let down every single day, especially my family."
The former Subway spokesperson has two children — son Brady, 11, and daughter Quinn, 9. He also has an ex-wife, who left him after he was busted on sex charges.
Before his sentencing, Jared tried to use his Subway diet as defense, calling in an expert who claimed his more than 200-pound weight drop caused him to be "hyper-sexual."
That didn't work.
The earliest Jared can walk free is March 24, 2029. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
