Amid Meghan Markle's "surprising" return to social media, Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and owner of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla and SpaceX recently engaged in a discussion concerning the British monarchy's role in political affairs.
Responding to an X commenter's suggestion that King Charles III should dissolve Parliament and call for a general election to address national concerns, Musk simply replied, "Yes."
RadarOnline.com can reveal the user shared a photo of His Majesty and said, "Who also thinks the KING should Dissolve Parliament and order a General Election be called for the sake and security of the country?"
Musk replied in agreement before the commenter explained, "The country desperately needs a general election our very democracy is under serious threat the likes we have not seen since the Second World War. Surely he can’t agree with what Labour are doing to the country no matter what you think of Charles, I do believe he loves this country and wants the best for its people."
This exchange has sparked debate about the constitutional powers of the British monarch. While the royal head of state technically holds the authority to dissolve Parliament, such action is traditionally exercised on the advice of the sitting Prime Minister as head of government and is largely ceremonial in modern times.
Direct intervention by the hereditary monarch in political matters could lead to a constitutional crisis, challenging the established norms of the U.K.'s parliamentary democracy.
Musk's comment coincided with Meghan returning to Instagram after a prolonged hiatus. However, there is no direct connection between Musk's remarks and Meghan's social media activity.
It's also worth noting that Musk previously commented on political matters in various countries, often stirring public discourse. His recent engagement in discussions about the U.K.'s political landscape "simply adds to his history of provocative statements on social media platforms," a source observed.
The tech giant's endorsement of the idea that Charles III should dissolve Parliament has reignited discussions about the constitutional role of the British monarchy.
While his comment was brief, it touches upon complex issues regarding the separation of ceremonial duties and political governance in the United Kingdom as the Carolean Age "struggles" to find its footing after a "historic" Elizabethan Era.
The California Duchess' reemergence on the photo-centric platform she left before marrying Prince Harry in 2018 divided opinions.
"I honestly haven't got a clue what she's doing now. I would have thought we should have had the theme tune from Jaws as she was running down to the water there," royal expert Charles Rae dished about the ex-actress' new video. "They [Harry and Meghan] came off social media because they were getting unparalleled abuse."
