Former American Idol contestant Haley Smith was killed in a motorcycle crash, RadarOnline.com can confirm.

The tragic accident took place early Saturday morning, August 31 at 2 A.M. in Millinocket, Maine, local police told Radar. She was just 26.

According to the Millinocket Police Department's Chief of Police Craig Worster, Smith "crashed on Medway Road...which resulted in her death."

"It would appear initially that she failed to negotiate a sharp turn and crashed," Worster claimed in a statement to Radar.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Smith, who is originally from Utah, auditioned in season 11 of American Idol.

While Smith didn't make it past round two, her folksy rendition of Rufus and Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good" left an impression on judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

This is a developing story.
