A granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy has died of an overdose at the family’s Hyannis Port, Massachusetts compound, RadarOnline.com can report.
Two sources close to the famous family told the New York Times that Saoirse Kennedy Hill, 22, passed away on Thursday, August 1.
Emergency responders were reportedly called to the scene that afternoon after Hill began suffering an overdose.
She was transferred to Cape Code Hospital in Hyannis, where she was pronounced dead.
“Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse,” the Kennedy family said in a statement. “Her life was filled with hope, promise and love.”
Hill was the daughter of Courtney Kennedy.
In their statement, the family quoted Ethel Kennedy, the 91-year-old widow of RFK: “The world is a little less beautiful today.”
Before her untimely death, Hill was open about her struggles with mental illness and depression.
Prior to enrolling in Boston College, she admitted to feeling “deep bouts of sadness that felt like a heavy boulder on my chest" in a heartbreaking 2016 essay for The Deerfield Scroll.
In the post, she also confessed to attempting suicide in the past.
R.I.P. Saoirse Kennedy Hill.
