John Singleton To Be Taken Off Life Support Nearly 2 Weeks After Suffering Stroke

John Singleton will be taken off life support today, Apr. 29, after he suffered a stroke at L.A.’s Cedar Sinai hospital nearly two weeks ago.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” a family spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline.
“This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”
According to the rep, the 51-year-old Boyz N the Hood actor battled hypertension.
The Oscar-nominated Singleton, who also starred in the films 2 Fast 2 Furious and Shaft, as well as the TV programs Empire and The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, is survived by his mother, Sheila Ward, his father, Danny Singleton and his children, Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven.
