Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is thanking fans and speaking out, with the help of his wife Lauren, for the first time since entering federal prison to serve time for tax evasion.
“Mike would like to thank all of his fans worldwide for the unbelievable outpouring of love & support,” Lauren tweeted on behalf of her husband. “We speak everyday & he’s doing great.”
As RadarOnline.com reported, Sorrentino, 36, officially checked into Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York on January 15 to serve an 8-month sentence on tax evasion charges.
The Jersey Shore star was sentenced to federal prison in October. He will have 24 months of supervised release and 500 hours of community service when he’s out.
Until then, he can spend his time reading the plethora of supportive letters he’s been receiving from fans around the world.
“He’s received thousands of letters, he won’t be able to respond to everyone but wanted to express his gratitude to each and every one of you,” Lauren tweeted. “Thank you from the both of us; it is truly heartwarming to have this support during this time.”

She ended the update by sending, “Lots of Love, Michael & Lauren Sorrentino.”
Unfortunately for the reality star, there won’t be “lots of love” between him and his wife while he’s locked up. As RadarOnline.com reported, Sorrentino’s been banned from conjugal visits!
“Mike will get to see his wife weekly. But they will get no alone time during their visits,” Federal prison consultant Dan Wise told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “He will be allowed a short kiss at the start and end of every visit.”
