Britney Spears has canceled multiple concerts scheduled for 2019 because her father Jamie Spears has suffered a health crisis and is now fighting for his life, RadarOnline.com can report.
Britney, 37, announced the sad news on her Instagram on Friday, January 4, revealing that her dad, 66, almost died two months ago.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination,” the "Toxic" singer wrote to fans.
She continued: “I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first…and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”
The pop star said she will now “put my full focus and energy” on her father's recovery.
According to a news release, Jamie fell “seriously ill” in November 2018 and was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Britney’s dad’s colon “spontaneously ruptured,” and he underwent emergency surgery.
The release states that Jamie spent 28 days in the hospital. He has since been recovering at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
Fan will be refunded for the tickets.
As RadarOnline.com readers know, Britney’s dad has played a major role in her own health journey. The “Piece of Me” singer’s assets have been supervised by her father since her public mental breakdown in 2008.
“After everything Jamie sacrificed to help his daughter when she was not well, Britney did not even think twice about putting her entire schedule on hold when he was rushed to the hospital," a source told RadarOnline.com. "Family is so important to her."
"She cannot even begin to think about what life would be like if he dies."
In November, a judge awarded Britney’s dad and her legal team hefty raises for their actions in maintaining Britney’s safety, RadarOnline.com reported.
