The Texas woman nationally known as “The Girl in the Closet” who was rescued after suffering years of horrific child abuse was arrested this week for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, RadarOnline.com can report.

Lauren Kavanaugh, 25, made national headlines in June 2001 when she was saved from her family’s home in Texas. She reportedly suffered years of starvation, torture and rape inside of a closet inside her parents' mobile home. Now, RadarOnline.com has learned the child abuse survivor was arrested on Monday, Dec. 17 for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a minor.

According to a press release, Lewisville Police in Texas received a tip that a 14-year-old female juvenile had been sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh. Detectives reached the juvenile and her parents and conducted a forensic interview.

“During the interview, the juvenile victim stated that she had been in a sexual relationship with Kavanaugh for the last two months. The victim and her parents also confirmed that Kavanaugh currently lived in their apartment,” said the release.

Police confirmed Kavanaugh is the woman who was commonly referred to as “The Girl in the Closet.” Kavanaugh ultimately met her teenage victim the teen through her Facebook account titled, “The Lauren Kavanaugh Story,” where she communicates with other potential abuse victims.

Detectives ultimately interviewed Kavanaugh who “admitted to a sexual relationship” with the 14-year-old girl, the release stated.

Kavanaugh was arrested for sexual assault of a child and is currently being held in jail on a $10,000 bond.

An official at the Lewisville Police Department exclusively told RadarOnline.com that the 14-year-old victim's parents are “very concerned.”

“They didn’t have knowledge of the seriousness of this relationship,” said the official, adding that the victim’s parents believed they were “just friends.”

The 14-year-old female is currently seeking counseling and getting help thanks to her parents, the police official told RadarOnline.com.
