Whitney Houston’s family life was anything but simple in the years leading up to her tragic death. According to Kevin Macdonald’s documentary, Whitney, the star’s dad was so furious to learn the star was a lesbian, that he plotted to hire gangsters to attack her female lover!
As RadarOnline.com readers know, Bobby Brown previously claimed Whitney was involved in a romantic relationship with BFF Robyn Crawford in the 1980s — but her family did not approve.
Bully John Houston – who was once accused of stealing millions from his superstar daughter – was so livid about Whitney’s gay relationship that he thought the only way to break them up was by injuring her girlfriend.
“He wanted somebody to scare Robyn,” said Keith Kelly, a Houston family friend.
Regardless, Whitney and Robyn, 55, continued their secret romance.
In a rare voice recording included in the documentary, the “I Will Always Love You” singer is heard saying “Robyn was tall and statuesque, and I was like, ‘Wow, I’ve been waiting for this person all my life.’”
Speaking on Whitney, the late beauty’s brother, Gary Garland-Houston made it clear he had the same views as his father regarding his dislike for Robyn.
“Robyn was a nobody. She was wicked, evil, and an opportunist. She was someone I didn’t want my sister to be involved with. But she got involved with her, for whatever reason,” he said.
“I knew Whitney was a lesbian – for sure I knew. I knew what she was, and I tried to tell my sister to leave Robyn alone,” Gary added.
