Trouble flared on the US/Mexico border today.

US agents fired tear gas and rubber bullets at hundreds of migrants who try to storm the border fence and forcing the crossing to be shut.

The Mexican border was closed Sunday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry after migrants in the border town of Tijuana stormed the area.

There were reports that children were caught-up in the clashes between the agents and migrants.

Tensions on the border had been rising in recent days, with thousands of migrants camped out in a sports stadium in Tijuana.

There has been increased activity by security forces as they prepare to tackle the issue with over 1500 soldiers being deployed.

President Trump has vowed to stop the migrants entering the US and vowed to get tough on them and Mexico.

He tweeted: "Would be very SMART if Mexico would stop the Caravans long before they get to our Southern Border, or if originating countries would not let them form."

But the tensions are continuing to grow at the five major crossing border spots.
