Bye Ben! Matt Damon Distances Himself From Pals With 'Excess Baggage'

RadarOnline.com has learned Matt Damon is going all out to reinvent himself in Hollywood — starting with a total overhaul of his social circle — since several of his best buds are currently enthralled in public relations nightmares.

"After being dragged down by his close association with Ben and Casey Affleck and Harvey Weinstein, Matt is making a real effort to fix his good name," an insider told RadarOnline.com.

Now, Damon is nurturing his friendship with fellow family guy Chris Hemsworth. He's also reaching out to other friends and peers in LA who don't bring a lot of baggage with them.

"He's going through a little restlessness in middle age and fixing his image was the kind of challenge he needed right about now," the insider revealed. "He's acquiring some stable, 'normal' friends he can share the journey with."

While he works on those new relationships, the actor is also throwing his star power behind causes he believes in, including supporting his favorite political candidate in the California election.

"Matt firmly supported Gavin Newsom for governor, and tried to raise money and awareness for the campaign to show that he can make some kind of difference," said the insider.
