Judge to Decide If Redmond O’Neal Is Fit To Stand Trial For Attempted Murder

Two psychologists have made their assessments as to whether or not the troubled son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal is mentally competent to stand trial, and now prosecutors must review the findings to determine how they want to proceed with the case, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Redmond O'Neal is facing at least 20 years in state prison for a week-long crime spree in May 2018 where the 33-year old allegedly used a knife to rob a convenience store. Authorities also allege O'Neal plunged a three-and-a half inch knife into the head of one man and attacked another man with a glass bottle.

That case, as well as a separate case where the 33-year old allegedly battered a healthcare professional inside Los Angeles County Jail, have been placed on hold for months now as O'Neal waits for a final decision on whether he is "fit" to stand trial.

At a hearing at Mental Health Court in Los Angeles on Thursday, Nov. 15, Prosecutor Michael Stewart said a psychologist, who was requested by the L.A. District Attorney's Office, completed his assessment on O'Neal.

Last month, a report from another psychologist, who was requested by O'Neal's defense attorney, Nina Daly, also provided a report on the 33-year old. Judge Roberto Longoria asked both sides to return to court on Dec. 4 for a trial setting conference.

Stewart did not want to comment on the reports filed by the two psychologists.

A trial could commence in January 2019, where the judge would listen to arguments from both sides on whether O'Neal understands the charges against him, and if he could assist his attorney in his own defense.

Under the law, a defendant who has a mental illness could still be deemed competent to stand trial.

Sources have told RadarOnline.com that O'Neal has refused to take his medication in jail and spends his days "talking to himself, often loudly yelling."

O'Neal's famous father, Ryan, has not attended the court hearings, but reportedly wrote a letter on behalf of his troubled son.
