Steel is a pseudonym for the author. He claims to have met Durst in 1982 on accident, but ultimately became one of the notorious accused killer's friends and confidante. The writer claimed Durst paid him for use of his apartment to do drugs and have sex with a bevy of women.

In an exclusive excerpt of the book obtained by RadarOnline.com, Steel claimed he left Durst in his home with a random woman only to come back and find the scene covered in blood.

"When I returned to the apartment, a foul odor stung my nose," Steel wrote. "It was deathly quiet, and I spotted what appeared to be blood. My heart immediately began racing."

Steel claimed he clutched a pistol as he approached Durst, who was "covered in blood" and smiling.

"There was blood everywhere, on the floors, walls and doors," Steel alleged in the tell-all.

Moments later, Steel said he questioned Durst about who he had killed as he surveyed the scene and found remnants of a dead body.

"There were some pieces of an animal scattered around. It looked like a dog. Maybe a German shepherd," Steel wrote. "Something large at any rate. And several knives and a small bow saw were lying around, all covered in blood."

Steel threatened to kill Durst and demanded information out of him.

As Steel recalled asking "what the f***" Durst was doing, the accused killer allegedly responded, "What I do best."

He dedicated the book to Kathie McCormack, Lynne Schulze, Susan Berman and Morris Black, who Steel claimed are four of Durst's victims.

Durst is currently serving time in Los Angeles prison on weapons charges. In 2016, Durst pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder of Berman.
