Olivia Newton-John Was Sewn Into Skintight Pants On ‘Grease’ Set: ‘I Couldn’t Eat!'
Olivia Newton-John looked stunning as “bad girl” Sandy in 1978 hit musical film Grease — but she nearly fainted in order to get the smoking hot look, the actress claims in her new memoir.
In Don’t Stop Believin’, John, now 70, says she had to be stitched into her infamous skintight black hot pants — which were made from sharkskin —and “couldn’t eat or drink that day on the set.”
“I limited myself to a few sips of water and no food, and joked that I was getting dehydrated and #2, might pass out,” she writes in the book, now available in her native Australia.
“At lunch, they actually had to unstitch me to eat and then re-stitch me after a bathroom trip.”
Though she claims it was a “painstaking process,” she said it was ultimately “worth it.”
“It felt empowering as pure adrenaline and the idea of claiming my own sexiness rushed through my body,” she remembers of filming in the sultry getup. “All the men on the crew began to do double and triple takes as they turned around to stare at me with jaws that headed south. I think a sandwich or two hit the floor.”
