Mike Sorrentino’s Lawyer Mentioned Teresa Giudice’s Case In Court To Help Avoid Prison

Mike Sorrentino’s lawyer argued in a New Jersey courtroom why his client shouldn’t receive prison time for his tax evasion crimes — and he used Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice to help get him off the hook. The Jersey Shore star’s lawyer Henry Kingeman brought up Giudice’s 2014 case in his argument, explaining how while her crime was fraud, she was at level 16, while his client’s case is less severe at level 11.

He explained how the judge in her case considered probation for Giudice until the prosecution argued that she failed to provide her financial assets.

“We were fully forthcoming with everything asked of us,” he said.

But using Giudice’s case didn’t help Sorrentino, as he was sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of supervised release. He is also ordered to complete 500 hours of community service.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Sorrentino’s lawyer also used his sobriety to avoid prison time.

“When he committed the offenses, he did so with drugs and a serious addiction," he said. "He is clean and sober. He has become an evangelist. The Long Branch Police Department called Mike to speak to a high school about the dangers of opiate addiction. He has made a remarkable journey. He is the redemption story we love to see.”

After the court hearing, he claimed the judge sentenced him to prison because of his celebrity status.

“We're disappointed. We hoped for probation,” Kingeman told reporters after the court hearing. “But the judge gave her reasons. It's a sad day.”

He added, “Mike Sorrentino righted his life. That progress has been interrupted. But this doesn't set him back.”

The Federal Grand Jury indicted Mike and his brother Marc for failing to pay taxes on $8.9 million of income in September 2014. They were also accused of filing false tax returns with the IRS in relation to Mike’s businesses.
