Nearly 20 years after her death, William Shatner has shared horrific details of the moment he discovered his wife Nerine Kidd’s lifeless body in their swimming pool, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

In the Star Trek actor’s upcoming memoir, Live Long and…What I Learned Along the Way, Shatner, 87, remembered his third wife’s death as one of the lowest points in his life.

“My grief was overwhelming,” Shatner wrote of the horrific 1999 incident. “This was the type of pain that makes you think either I’m simply going to die or I’m going to kill myself.”

The heartbroken widower also shared with readers the moments he discovered Kidd’s body on their property.

“I found her in our pool and lifted her out of the water,” Shatner explained. “The emergency responders rushed to the house, but there was nothing that could be done. I saw her body lying there in the moonlight.”

Nerine died at the age of 40. She was widely known as an alcoholic. Although her death was ruled accidental, an autopsy report issued in 1999 showed alcohol and Valium contributed to her sudden drowning.

After Nerine’s passing, Shatner revealed to the National ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview that Kidd was helpless.

“I fought and fought to save my wife from the serpent of alcoholism – but I failed,” Shatner said. “Nerine would hide bottles of alcohol all around the house where I couldn’t find them, and even hide her vodka in water bottles.”

Shatner filed for divorce from Nerine in October 1998, but ended up staying with her. It wasn’t until days before Nerine’s death that he told her he was ready to leave her for good, he confessed to the ENQUIRER in 1999.

In his new book, Shatner remembered himself as “completely lost” after the death of his third wife.

“The drowning death of my wife Nerine haunts me,” he confessed in the book.

Two decades ago Nerine’s brother, William, accused Shatner of exploiting Nerine’s death in order to sell his former memoirs.

Two years after Nerine’s shocking death, Shatner remarried horse trainer Elizabeth Anderson.
