According to an insider, Sizemore landed in Mesa, Arizona to begin filming on Wednesday, September 19, but things quickly turned sour when the actor phoned into the studio to let them know he was going to the hospital for "abdominal pains."
"We get a call from him, he's panicked," the informant revealed. "He says I need to go to the hospital...and people freaked out."
At the hospital, Sizemore was allegedly administered morphine and was later given a prescription for the powerful drug.
However, the source claimed the troubled actor couldn't even afford the $350 copay and had to have his costar, Michael Saquella, spot him the cash.
Sizemore, 56, was desperate to get financial backing before Saquella stepped up, according to the source. "At one point, before Michael paid for his prescription, he was calling like 20 people in LA saying 'I need a thousand dollars,'" the insider claimed. "These must have been his friends. And no one was giving him a thousand dollars. He was panicking to get money."
Sizemore is reportedly shacking up at the hotel for free on the film company's dime.
The source says when execs dabbled with the idea of taking him off the project, Sizemore broke down into tears.
"He started crying hysterically and begging for them not to send him home" the insider said.
The informant claimed to believe Sizemore was on drugs. "From the beginning he was acting really sketchy," said the snitch, "I don't believe he is sober."
"I've dealt with a lot of people who are on drugs and he is definitely on something," the source further claimed. "Everybody on the set said the same thing. He was sweating profusely. He was talking super fast and not making any sense."
Earlier that day, Sizemore allegedly made his assistant drive him to a head shop — a store selling drug paraphernalia.
"Tom made his assistant stop at a head shop when he landed in Phoenix and made him buy a bunch of paraphernalia that he then left at the hotel check in," the insider said. "Then he made his assistant go to Home Depot to buy propane. We can only guess what he needs all that for. He told him he would pay him back, but obviously he won't."
The following day, on Thursday, Tom appeared on set 45 minutes late.
"This is all pretty scary considering we were told he was hoping for a comeback," the insider added. "I hope he gets the help that he needs."
A rep for Sizemore denied he was acting strange on set, and said he was hospitalized for kidney stones.
The spokesperson added that the star did not ask for money.
"He has full coverage insurance," the rep said. "He's a really great guy, definitely had his own share of instances in the past. But, doing wonderful."
Sizemore has struggled with drug addiction since he was 15 years old.
In 2003, he was convicted of assault and battery against his then girlfriend, Heidi Fleiss.
Two years later, he was sentenced to seven months in jail and four months in rehab for repeatedly failing drug tests while on probation.
In 2007, while still on drug probation, Sizemore was arrested outside a hotel in Bakersfield, California for possession of meth.
He later made appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010.
