Stefán Karl Stefánsson, the Icelandic actor best known for his role in LazyTown, has passed away, RadarOnline.com has learned.
After two years of battling with bile duct cancer, the 43-year-old actor died at 8:10a.m. this Tuesday in Iceland, according to various outlets.
His heartbroken wife, Steinunn, confirmed the sad news to PEOPLE, saying that the star had dealt with “aggressive bile duct cancer” for too long.
“Per Stefan’s wishes, there will be no funeral. His earthly remains will be scattered in secrecy in a distant ocean,” she added. “Stefan’s family wants to express their gratitude for the support and warmth received in recent years, and to express their deepest sympathy to the many friends and fans of Stefan Karl.”
Stefánsson was open about his cancer battle, and even documented it on Instagram. In February 2017, he even shared happy photos of himself in his hospital bed, celebrating his last chemotherapy treatment.
“All done with chemo for now. #allover #happy #happyplantdad,” he captioned the post.
Stefánsson’s last post came this June, when he shared a photo of a rainbow with the words “At the end of every storm there is a rainbow of hope.”
It is unknown when the actor’s cancer returned or why it quickly turned fatal.
RIP Stefán Karl Stefánsson.
