Brad Facing Lawsuit Over Rotting New Orleans Homes Built After Hurricane Katrina

Just as Brad Pitt is embroiled in a bitter divorce battle with estranged wife Angelina Jolie, the actor is facing a new lawsuit over the shoddy construction of New Orleans homes his foundation built after Hurricane Katrina.

According to reports, an attorney plans to sue Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation on behalf of some residents of the Lower Ninth Ward who reported sicknesses, headaches and infrastructural issues on homes built by the movie star.

Pitt created the foundation in 2007, two years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the city.  The goal was to replace the swept away houses with 150 state-of-the-art homes that were storm-safe, solar-powered, highly insulated and “green.”

The homes were available at an average price of $150,000 to residents who received resettlement financing, government grants and donations from the foundation itself.

But 10 years and more than $26 million later, construction has halted at around 40 houses short of Pitt’s goal. Some homes are even falling apart.

“Essentially, Make It Right was making a lot of promises to come back and fix the homes that they initially sold these people and have failed to do so,” attorney Ron Austin told WWL-TV. “We have some people who have gotten sick, or we believe to be sick.”

This has been an ongoing issue. In 2013, Make It Right homeowner Nola Verrett told RadarOnline.com exclusively, “The wood turned gray and it was also black. Also some parts it was buckling and it had mushrooms growing out of it. Different neighborhoods saw it too.”

As RadarOnline.com has reported, this is not the first issue for Pitt’s housing project. The actor’s charity had also announced plans in 2015 to develop between six and 50 new single-family homes in Manheim Park, Kansas City, but that project is still waiting to break ground more than three years later.
