RadarOnline.com has learned the 29-year-old Georgetown graduates were riding their bikes around Tajikistan with five other cyclers when a group of armed criminals ran them over and stabbed them to death.

Before their tragic deaths, Geoghegan and Austin has spent nearly a year biking through Europe, Africa and Asia. They lived extremely eco-friendly and healthy lives and regularly documented their journey on their blog, SimplyCycling.

In one of the entries, Austin wrote that one thing they’d discovered during their travels is that most people are inherently loving and kind.

“The yearlong bicycle adventure Lauren and her partner, Jay Austin, were enjoying was typical of her enthusiasm embrace of life’s opportunities, her openness to new people and places, and her quest for a better understanding of the world,” Geoghegan’s parents, Robert and Elvira said in a statement given to CBS.

Geoghegan and Austin wrote on their blog that they planned to continue their cycling journey for one, two, or three more years, as long as they still enjoyed it.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

RIP Lauren Geoghegan and Jay Austin.
