Angst-ridden Angelina Jolie is battling to prove estranged husband Brad Pitt is an unfit father by hiring a team of spies to monitor his every movement, RadarOnline.com can exclusively report.

The actress has recruited a group of highly connected confidantes to spy on her estranged husband while she is in the U.K. filming the sequel to Maleficent, a source claimed.

Jolie's underhand tactic in her increasingly venomous custody struggle with Pitt comes as she made a rare public statement denying her lawyer is quitting her divorce case – amid claims the actress had made the process too hostile for her own attorney.

Making matters even more tumultious, she also reportedly claimed in court this week that Pitt hasn't paid child support in more than a year!

Despite a flood of detailed information about Pitt's movements being fed to Jolie, a source claimed she wants to "step things up" and hire a private investigator to track her ex.

"It's nearly two years since Angelina filed, and she is still refusing to back down when it comes to finalizing a divorce and custody settlement with Brad," the source claimed. "Brad is renowned for his relaxed persona, and Angelina is exactly the opposite – a real perfectionist."

"Her latest tactic of recruiting a team of spies to monitor Brad is part of that side to her personality."

"She has several confidantes who are highly connected in showbiz who are tracking Brad's every move and reporting back his conversations and plans to her on practically a daily basis."

"Angelina told them she wanted them to compile dossiers of information she could use in their divorce and custody settlement. She wants to hear what women he's hanging around with."

"Basically, she wants a packet of information she can use as ammunition against him in court to prove he's not up to being a dad when it comes to finalizing their divorce and custody terms."

"She is tooling up for a really bitter war over splitting their assets and organizing visitation rights to their six kids."

But the actress' confidantes have told her hiring a PI would be "over the top" and look "terrible" if she presented evidence from one in court.

"Angelina has already been told by a judge to ease up and help her children have a positive relationship with Brad," the source explained. "So if she starts to present a dossier from a private eye against him in court, it could do more harm than good."

Jolie is currently holed up with their six children – Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, Vivienne, 10 and Knox, 10 – at a posh hotel in central London while filming Maleficent 2.

Pitt is in Los Angeles shooting Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Manson family murders-inspired flick Once Upon A Time In Hollywood alongside Leonardo DiCaprio — and the sober star is behaving himself, the source insisted.

"Brad is working hard on set and isn't drinking or smoking weed or womanizing or anything like that," the source claimed. "Angelina isn't going to get anything from spying on him at this stage."

In June, the stars' split saga took an especially bitter turn when RadarOnline.com first reported Jolie had been ordered to allow Pitt more time with the kids – and that she risked losing primary custody if she failed to keep to the terms of the agreement.

According to court documents, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County determined Pitt "not having a relationship with their father" would be "harmful" to the children.
