“Pump It Up” singer Elvis Costello just admitted he recently underwent surgery for a “small but very aggressive” cancerous tumor.

As RadarOnline.com has learned, the musician cancelled the remainder of his European summer tour due to his sudden health crisis.

On his website, Costello, 63, wrote that he will be in recovery for three to four weeks following his surgery. Though he believed “normal service had been resumed” after going under the knife, doctors advised him to relax for a few more days before hopping back on stage.

“The spirit has been more than willing but I have to now accept that it is going to take longer than I would have wished for me to recover my full strength,” he continued.

The singer then urged fans and friends to go see a doctor if they have any doubt about their symptoms. “It may save your life. Believe me, it is better than playing roulette.”

Elvis Costello will be releasing new music this October, and looks forward to making a full recovery very soon.
