Bode Miller Says Toddler Daughter’s Drowning Happened ‘In The Blink Of An Eye’

One month after his toddler died in a freak pool accident, Olympic skier Bode Miller is opening up to Savannah Guthrie about the tragedy.
“I can attest from firsthand experience now that it's unbelievable quick and it's unbelievable sneaky,” Miller, 40, told the Today host, recalling the incident. “You'd think it'd be, like, some weird circumstance or some strange thing. And, it's not. It just happens in the blink of an eye.”
His wife, Morgan Beck also spoke of Emmy’s drowning, saying that they’ve taken it as a lesson and urge parents to do the same.
“A child under 30 pounds can drown in 30 seconds. And I just keep counting to 30 in my head. That was all I needed. And so, it's one of those things where, as a parent now, when you go to someone else's house, survey the home to see if it's a safe place for your child to be,” said the former pro volleyball player.
RadarOnline.com readers know that after 19-month-old Emmy died inside a neighbor’s pool, Beck, 31, took to Instagram to warn parents about the frequency with which children’s drowning deaths happen.
“We talk about vaccinations, car seats, organic foods, screen time, etc. at length…but not the number one risk your children’s lives face…a silent killer. It takes SECONDS. Please share and help us spread awareness,” she wrote at the time.
The full sit-down interview with Bode Miller and Morgan Beck will air Monday, July 30th on NBC’s News’ TODAY.
