Police are still trying to track down a suspect and a motive in the mysterious murder of a 35-year-old scientist who was found dead while camping in California with his two young daughters, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, Tristan Beaudette was sleeping in a tent with his girls, ages 2 and 4, at Malibu Creek State Park when gunshots erupted just before 5 a.m. on June 22.

Police rushed to the site, but they were too late to save Beaudette, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victim was shot at least once in the upper torso," Deputy Brooks of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department told RadarOnline.com. "He was camping with family members. No other individuals were hurt during the incident."

According to Brooks, deputies from Lost Hills discovered the murdered father after they responded to a shots fired call.

"No information on who made the call is available at this time," he noted, adding officials are treating the death as a homicide.

"It's still under investigation — no further developments at this time," Deputy Brooks added. "There are no suspects at this time. There is no motive at this time."

Beaudette was employed as a scientist at a pharmaceutical company. He and his wife, Erica, a doctor, had just moved to the area for new jobs. Erica was reportedly home at the time studying for an exam.

Family members were taken to the station immediately after the incident to be interviewed by investigators.

A GoFund Me page has been set up for the family, and loved ones are pleading for anyone with information to call police.

"Erica and our entire family are overwhelmed by all the generosity and kind words," reads the GoFund Me post. "The Sheriffs are still searching for a suspect and motive.

If you or anyone you know might have any information, please contact the LA County Sherriff at 323-890-5500."
